Ready-made low-carb tomato sauce may seem like a much simpler and more practical option, especially with the rush of everyday life, but it is not very healthy, since ready-made canned sauces can contain bisphenol A, a preservative suspected of causing hormonal dysfunctions. Below we list five recipes for low carb tomato sauce so you can make your own homemade tomato sauce. It's simpler than you think!
Low carb tomato sauce | Traditional
Ingredients
500 grams of tomato for sauce (round or long and very ripe)
1 small onion
1 small carrot or half a medium carrot
1 piece of celery
salt to taste
4 tablespoons of olive oil
3 or more basil leaves
vegetable strainer

Place the olive oil in a deep pan with the onion, celery and chopped carrot until golden brown.
Add the washed and chopped tomatoes, salt and basil and cook over low heat (about half an hour). Stir occasionally to prevent burning â the sauce may bubble, so leave the pan covered or half covered.
Pass the sauce through a vegetable strainer, leaving it homogeneous.
Check if the consistency is firm; if it is too watery, return the strained sauce to the pan and cook it for a while longer over low heat.
Low carb tomato sauce | Sauce in a frying pan
Ingredients
300 grams of cherry tomatoes
salt to taste
3 tablespoons of olive oil
1 large whole garlic clove (2 if small)
1 bay leaf (optional)

Peel the garlic and place it whole in the frying pan to brown in the olive oil.
When the garlic is golden, add the halved tomatoes and let them cook over medium heat in the open frying pan along with the dried bay leaf.
The sauce will be ready when the tomatoes start to release their skin.
Tomato sauce with onion

Ingredients
500 grams of tomatoes for sauce
2 medium onions, chopped
salt to taste
4 tablespoons of olive oil
optional basil (a few leaves)
a piece of carrot (to take away the acidity of the tomato)

Heat the onions until golden in the oil.
Add the washed and chopped tomatoes and let them cook for about 30 minutes.
Check the consistency and stir constantly to prevent it from burning or sticking to the bottom.
When the sauce is ready, blend it well using a blender to crush the tomato skin.
Low carb tomato sauce | Baked
Ingredients
300 grams of cherry tomatoes
3 small cloves of garlic (according to taste)
Aromatic herbs to taste (oregano, marjoram, basil, black pepper, thyme, sausage or dry spice mix)
salt to taste

Wash and cut the cherry tomatoes in half and place them on a baking sheet.
Sprinkle salt on top, add the finely chopped garlic (remove the garlic thread, as it can cause indigestion), the herbs and spread a generous amount of olive oil on top.
Bake at 180°C for about 20 minutes until the tomatoes have a golden-brown skin.
Mix in the tomatoes and the sauce is ready to accompany any pasta.
Low carb tomato sauce with garlic, oil and pepper
Ingredients
2 large cloves of garlic
6 tablespoons of olive oil
1 fresh cayenne pepper
3 cherry tomatoes
salt to taste

In a frying pan, place the whole garlic cloves and the pepper (whole or chopped) to brown in plenty of olive oil.
Add the tomatoes to add flavor and color to the sauce. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and it's ready.
Remove the cooked spaghetti from the water (about two minutes before the cooking time indicated on the package) and add it to the frying pan to absorb the flavor of the sauce.
