REGULAR PHYSICAL EXERCISE – WHY IT IS MORE THAN IMPORTANT: IT IS FUNDAMENTAL

Have you ever heard of a zebra that had a “stroke”? Or a lion that had a heart attack?

That's right: several cases began to occur in animals brought from their natural habitat to zoos.
Among other things, this means that if even animals, which are stronger and faster than humans, can suffer cardiovascular complications when they reduce their daily physical activity, imagine how much easier it is for sedentary humans…

Let's think about a brand new door: if it is not "opened and closed" and its hinges are not lubricated regularly, it will soon become difficult to open, will get stuck, will make noises, and will show that its movement is getting worse and worse. And

Extrapolating this example to the human organism:

  • The door is our body and mind;
  • The lubricating oil is water;
  •  Hinges are our joints,

Muscles and blood circulation: without water and physical exercise, joints and muscles begin to “lock up” and hurt, and blood begins to circulate poorly, not reaching the various parts of the body properly and becoming “thick”, coagulating excessively and “clogging” veins and arteries more easily.

Yet another interesting analogy: Do you know what happens to “stagnant” blood? It clots. When it clots, it clogs; and in our body, when blood remains there “clogging” arteries and veins, we have the genesis of varicose veins, edema (swelling), embolisms, thrombosis, heart attacks, strokes and the worsening of high blood pressure. How to move the blood? Regular physical exercise.

Following this reasoning…

In fact, cardiovascular diseases (especially high blood pressure, heart attacks and strokes) kill around 1,000 people per day in Brazil alone, with the number of “sequelae” and complications being almost 5 times higher. Worldwide, heart attacks, strokes and high blood pressure together kill far more people than accidents, AIDS, cancer, H1N1 flu or any other disease we can think of.

So, what physical exercise should you do? Any type of exercise, preferably aerobic (i.e. with increased breathing) for at least 40 minutes straight, at least 5 times a week. Walking, running, water aerobics, dancing, jogging, swimming, tennis, etc. are all valid; the most important factors are: maintain regularity, try not to interrupt it and respect the limits of each organism.
