THE low carb kafta There is no mystery in preparing it. You know that ground meat that would turn into simple meatballs? Change the shape a little, add some spices and voilà! It is super easy to make and delicious for your low carb diet.

Low carb kafta | Ingredients (Arabic/Lebanese meatball with spices)

  • 300g of ground beef (bovine or of lamb)
  • 1/2 onion, grated or finely chopped
  • 1 clove of garlic, crushed or finely chopped
  • 3 tablespoons of squeezed lemon
  • 1 tablespoon chopped mint
  • 1 teaspoon of Syrian or black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Olive oil and salt to taste
  • 3 to 4 barbecue sticks (optional)
  • Aluminum foil

Low carb kafta | How to prepare

Place all the ingredients in a bowl and mix the meat with all the seasonings until well combined. Shape the meat into balls or patties around the sticks, brush a little olive oil around them and wrap them in aluminum foil. Refrigerate for about 15 minutes to intensify the seasonings and firm up the dough.

You can prepare the low carb kafta on a barbecue, on an electric grill or in a non-stick frying pan or bake in the oven for about 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the size. This time, I used an electric grill to get the surface nice and toasted, just the way I like it.

To accompany the dish, there are good options such as: low-carb tabbouleh, golden onion, cauliflower puree, watercress salad with tomato, and a little lemon on top. If you want, make a sandwich with the kafta in the middle of a low-carb bread of your favorite.

A good suggestion is to freeze it and prepare it at any time of the day.
