What is low carb?

The English term low carb translates as: low carb and describes the main objective of this diet. The goal is to drastically reduce the amount of daily carbohydrates, on the one hand, to achieve weight reduction and then to maintain the reduced weight.

What happens in our body?

The body is supplied with sugar through the bloodstream, providing the necessary energy. Sugar consists of short carbon chains that are absorbed daily. Longer chains, on the other hand, occur in potatoes, rice, and grains and are transformed into simple sugars during digestion.

In the low carb theory, it is believed that regularly high carbohydrate content, which is especially absorbed by bread, leads to obesity and disease.

With the drastic reduction of carbohydrates, the metabolism switches to catabolism. The body uses stored fat cells and releases them as a source of energy. Insulin levels decrease in this prolonged process. Instead of insulin, glucagon is now being produced, which destroys fat deposits.

What sets the low-carb diet apart?

In the daily diet, carbohydrates are replaced by proteins and fats. Vegetables are the main part of the diet, along with some meat, fish and dairy products. Individual diets have different values for how many carbohydrates should at least be consumed daily.

However, a minimum of valuable carbohydrates, such as those found in vegetables, are necessary for every human being.
